GRADUATE STUDENTS
Shana BorderPhD student, 2019-present
Shana is studying offspring-parent communication in house sparrows. Using careful experimental manipulations of nestling mouth color, she has tested hypotheses about how color functions and why parents respond. Shana is also using both descriptive and experimental approaches to understand the roles of signals and cues in driving parental preferences. |
Erin EstesMS student, 2022-present
Erin is pursuing a master's in the biomathematics program. She is using meta-analysis to ask how independent elements of nestling mouth coloration reflect individual condition and influence parental prey allocation. Erin is also following up on a recent publication to test the hypothesis that parents other than birds favor their largest offspring. |
